80286
|
(i)
The
Intel 80186, is a microprocessor and microcontroller introduced in 1982.
|
(i) The Intel 80286
is a 16-bit microprocessor that was introduced on 1 February 1982.
|
(ii) Also known as
the iAPX 186 or just 186.
|
(ii) It also
marketed as the iAPX 286 and often called lnte1 286.
|
(iii) In 80186 the
controller chip is set in the microprocessor by inter.
|
(iii) In 80286 the
controller chip is again separated from microprocessor.
|
(iv) It was based on
the Intel 8086 and, like it, had a 16-bit external data bus multiplexed with
a 20-bit address bus.
|
(iv) It was the
first 8086 based CPU with separate, non-multiplexed address and data buses
and also the first with memory management and wide protection abilities.
|
(v) The internal
clock generator replaces the external 8284A clock generator used with the
8086 microprocessors. This reduces the component count in a system.
|
(v) The clock is
provided by the 82284 clock generator, and the system control signals are
provided by the 82288 system bus controller.
